Let’s be honest, there are some things that we all like to do on our own, there are things we like to get other people to do, and then there are things we try to do that we should really hire professionals to do. We all try to save a few dollars here and there, by taking on tasks that are truly best left to professionals. Whether they are small tasks that will just inconvenience us for a bit or they are extremely difficult tasks that could potentially harm us, we need to find that balance. Sometimes, it is about figuring out who the best people are for the job and then reaching out to them.
Here are five things you should really hire a professional to do (even though you think you may be able to handle them by yourself):
Septic Tank Maintenance & Repairs
There are just some jobs that are too dangerous to do because they can physically harm you, and then there are jobs that are too dangerous to do because they can get you really sick. Septic tank maintenance and repairs are two of those things. Even if you have read about just what septic tanks and septic systems are, even if you’ve watched a few videos online, and even if you’ve worked on your own plumbing before now, it just isn’t worth the risk.
It is best to call a professional who has the tools, suits, and know-how to handle this sometimes disgusting job. If you mess up your septic tank, you are looking are pretty expensive repairs and perhaps even construction in your yard to get the tank out of the ground. It just isn’t worth it to risk it.
Getting Your Hair Cut
Now, this may not seem so high stakes, but trying to cut your own hair can end in disaster. There are so many horror stories about people who thought they could cut their own hair and ended up going much shorter than they wanted to go. Even if you think you can handle just “trimming” your bangs, it is best to go to someone with a cosmetology license. It can take weeks, if not months, to get your hair back to normal and that will severely impact your mental health.
Of course, it goes without saying that you should never try to bleach or color your own hair. These processes use chemicals that can only be purchased with valid credentials – the types you buy in the store are often really bad for your hair.
Tree Trimming & Removal
It can be rather tempting to cut down that dead branch or even cut away at a tree until you think it is safe to bring the entire thing down – but it isn’t wise. There are so many accidents every year related back to tree care that it is actually scary to see that some stores still rent out machines to do this work. Don’t risk your safety or the safety of the people around you – get a professional to look at your trees. They are able to bring down large branches and trees easily, know what to look for to see if there are any other dangers in place, and ensure that you are up to codes in relation to your trees.
Even something as simple sounding as stump grinding should be left up to the professionals. There are many cases every year of people getting blinded by pieces of trees, knocked unconscious by falling limbs, and even killed by falls from trees.
Tattoos are expensive, especially if you want to get something small that you don’t think lives up to shop minimum. However, going to someone who isn’t a professional, doesn’t have a shop, and you can’t validate their cleanliness probably isn’t a great idea. These pieces of art, no matter how well done, can be dangerous. If they aren’t well done, you may be left with something awful for the rest of your life. Cover-ups cost even more than normal tattoos do, so you really aren’t saving money.
If you are going to get a tattoo, look into the artwork of the artist, look into their reviews, and don’t make the decision on a whim. It just isn’t worth it.
These are just a few of the areas where you really should hire a professional instead of trying to do them by yourself. There is some romance around the idea of taking things into your own hands, but that romance quickly fades.
